ATLANTICO

Atlantico is a powerful Latin dance orchestra featuring charismatic Colombian singer Antonio Porras. Their name comes from the Carribean province which spawned the exciting styles of Colombian "Musica Tropical" which they play.

These include:-

• Cumbia, originally the dance music of the slave community, combining European melody with African rhythm (a backbeat more like reggae than salsa) and native American harmonies
• The Porro, a loping rhythm from the cattle-ranching grasslands, hypnotic Big Band music which dominated the dancehalls of Latin America from the 1940's
• Vallenato - spiralling Merengue rhythms, clambering bass line and plaintive accordion accompany ancestral tales of hard-boiled behaviour and illicit passion
